Lost African Gray Parrot - KuntaHelp? On Sunday, April 26th our African Gray Parrot Kunta flew out of an open door and out of our lives. We are devastated. However we still hope and that's where you come in. We need your help in passing the word around Des Moines and Central Iowa. He was last seen here at 86th and Douglas in Urbandale, Iowa. Read more below... Kunta, like all African Gray's, can be "difficult". The experts tell us these birds, that live to be fifty years old, (Kunta is just three) have the mentality of a five year old and the emotional stability of a three year old. (Which explains why he bonded with Michael...) They are very social birds and we were/are his "flock". To keep a parrot in a cage on display is one of the worst things you can do with these guys. They crave affection and interaction. But, a word of warning. Like any young child they can throw a tantrum and Kunta has been known to have more than his share of "time outs" in his spacious cage. We're telling you all of this in the hope that if you find him or know of someone who has found, in Central Iowa, a wonderful gray bird it's not a "cake walk" and they require loads of special care, special foods and lots of interaction. Kunta, being one of the brightest members of the Insight Advertising staff, spent most of his time in the office. He is a valued member of the group and is often consulted on some of our more "bird-brained" ideas. (See, now you know where they come from!) We miss him greatly and what was once a flurry of activity too often seems like a tomb. (More below) So, if you are still reading...we'd like your help in passing the word and this page around. You can reach us at our office 24/7 at 515-331-3206 If we're not in, just leave a message. We've followed leads from all over the Urbandale, Des Moines and West Des Moines, placed posters on bike trail heads, in parks, handed out his business card (no kidding) put his information on Craig's List, contacted nearly every vet office in Central Iowa...and then there is...you. (More below...) So many people we do not know have come into our lives and worked to try to find Kunta. We were on Twitter @MichaelLibbie one day and said we were headed out to follow up a lead in a specific area of Des Moines and...people showed up to help us walk the woods. We've gotten phone calls from people who have seen our signs posted along the bike trails and walking trails saying, "I'm not sure but, I just had to call and ask if you've found him. We look every day while walking." Or the person who has sent us hopeful e-mails and our friend Mike Hutchison of the Iowa Parrot Rescue who shared with us the good and bad news about finding a lost bird. You...you have all been so helpful and because so many have given us so much hope...we're still looking. And, for now, the Kunta Kage sits outside. A friend said he might see it and want to return. We'll try anything. So, if you can...will you help us find Kunta the little African Gray Parrot? You'll help fill the Kunta Kage, our home and our hearts. Thank you so very much. Michael & Georgie Libbie
